How to use it

  1. Print a stack. Keep copies in your truck so you always have one ready.
  2. Fill in the job info before you start walking. Note the customer name, address, and date.
  3. Walk each room. Measure dimensions, note the substrate and condition, and check off whether ceilings, trim, and doors need painting.
  4. Assess prep needs. For each surface, check which prep tasks apply. This is where most underestimates happen — the checklist forces you to scope it explicitly.
  5. Use the quick reference on page 2 to estimate gallons and labor hours while still on-site. The coverage and production rates are the same numbers used by professional estimating software.
  6. Transfer to your estimate. Back at the office (or in your truck), use the completed checklist to build the estimate. Every number is already captured — no second trips, no guessing from memory.
