What the checklist covers
This two-page PDF is designed to be printed and carried to every job site. It includes:
- Customer name, address, date, and estimator fields
- 10-row room grid: length, width, height, substrate, condition, ceiling/trim/door toggles
- Exterior surfaces section: elevation, siding type, condition, stories, prep checkboxes
- 10-item prep checklist: power washing, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, masking, primer, lead test, furniture protection, wallpaper removal
- Paint system fields: brand, sheen, coats, primer, colors
- Coverage rates by substrate (drywall, plaster, wood, concrete, brick, metal)
- Production rates by task (walls, ceilings, trim, doors, cabinets, prep tasks)
- Gallon formula with standard waste factors
How to use it
- Print a stack. Keep copies in your truck so you always have one ready.
- Fill in the job info before you start walking. Note the customer name, address, and date.
- Walk each room. Measure dimensions, note the substrate and condition, and check off whether ceilings, trim, and doors need painting.
- Assess prep needs. For each surface, check which prep tasks apply. This is where most underestimates happen — the checklist forces you to scope it explicitly.
- Use the quick reference on page 2 to estimate gallons and labor hours while still on-site. The coverage and production rates are the same numbers used by professional estimating software.
- Transfer to your estimate. Back at the office (or in your truck), use the completed checklist to build the estimate. Every number is already captured — no second trips, no guessing from memory.

When you're ready to automate the workflow
This checklist captures the same data that PriceTable's paint calculator collects digitally. When you're ready to skip the paper and go straight from walkthrough to professional estimate, PriceTable handles the coverage math, labor production rates, prep scoping, and container optimization automatically.
